Weekend Away!

This says it all if we wanted a weekend away in the 1960's with some savoir faire. Stay at a Holiday Inn! The promise of some glamour beside the Intersatate awaits middle America on the move!

  1. Insight into just how fabulous:
"Holiday Inn" is, of course, from the Movie of the same name in which Bing Crosby sang "White Christmas".
The original inn, where the movie was filmed, was the Village Inn in Monte Rio, California--on the Russian River just north of San Francisco. The area around Monte Rio and Geurneville became a well-known gay resort, and the Village Inn's clientele was primarily gay. I've never understood why the Village Inn doesn't make more of its fabulous connection--as the original Holiday Inn--but I suppose part of Savoir Faire is sotto voce nonchalance.
